This article identifies the environmental threats faced by small states in the pursuit of socio-economic growth. It warns that externally-derived development models pose serious ecological dangers in a wide variety of respects, to Caribbean and other small countries. An appropriate set of recommendations is offered to protect small state environments involving action the national and international levels. These measures include action towards legislative reform, training, research and development, national accounting, information-networking and common international positions on environmental protection.
