Describes attacks of the coconut mite and outlines methods for controlling this pest chemically. Experiments for the control of the mite include stem injection of pesticides as well as other chemical, physical, and biological treatments. An examination of the nutritional status of coconut trees in St. Lucia shows inadequate amounts of nitrogen, potassium, and phosphorus. Mite migration, its causes and plant resistance to the mite are discussed. Findings show that the mite is the most serious pest in coconuts in St. Lucia, Grenada and St. Vincent. Recommends that rehabilitation and replanting projects should precede mite control.
