Effects of hurricane Allen on agriculture in St. Lucia with specific reference to the Banana Industry - CARIMAC, UWI Kingston - 16 p.
The study presents general information on Dominica and examines the contribution of agriculture to output, employment and the balance of payments. Damages caused by Hurricane Allen was extensive with losses up to one hundred percent being suffered by certain crops (plantain and macambou). Banana production fell drastically and the estimated loss was $47.68 million (EC). Government responded by immediately formulating recovery plans which included assistance from aid donors in providing essential inputs to the farmers. Personnel from WINBAN were assigned to prepare operational management plans and oversee the operations.
