Improving the availability of publications: a comparative assessment of model national systems - IFLA International Programme for UAP West Yorkshire 1984 - 82 p.

This report focuses on the main library functions of acquisition supply and retention for future availability. Solutions proposed range from full centralization to decentralized services. Factors to be taken into account in planning a national availability system include efficient legal deposit and interlending mechanism. Performance should be assessed on satisfaction, speediness, low cost, ease of use, ability to monitor and ability to conserve for future use. A number of models for national provision and supply of publications are proposed.
