Vanutu consists of some eighty islands with a population of approximately 142,000 people. While potential for agricultural activity is high this sector presently contributes only 25 percent to GDP as compared to 65 percent by the service sector. Diversification of the economic base of the country has therefore been concentrated on the agricultural sector.
