The consultation was convened in response to the priority placed on mental health by countries in the sub-region and by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). PAHO sought to convene a multi-disciplinary, inter-country group of mental health professionals to identify priority mental health issues, develop strategies to address them, and inform PAHO's technical cooperation in mental health.
