United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean conducted an Inter-Island Shipping Survey to assess maritime transport services within the Caribbean. The study examined shipping route, frequency and cargo capacity, and passenger service between islands. It aimed to identify challenges affecting trade and connectivity, such as inadequate infrastructure, high operational cost and regulatory barriers. Findings provide recommendations to improve efficiency, promote regional integration, and enhance economic development through a strengthened inter-island maritime transport network.
