N2  - This study examines the state of education in Latin America and the Caribbean between 1980 and 2000, a period marked by significant socio-economic and political transformation in the region. It provides an overview of the major challenges, reforms and outcomes that characterized education systems in the region during this period. It also highlights the impact of structural adjustments programs, democratization, and decentralization on education policies and outcomes, as well as the role of international organization and NGOs in shaping education agender. It explores the consequences of these challenges and reform on education outcomes, including increased access to primary education, persistent disparities in secondary and higher education and the emergence of new forms of inequality
