These demands include the building up of a Caribbean technology geared to the social needs of the area and strong enough to influence political decisions-making and protecting the area from the undesirable consequences of technological importation. The paper focuses attention on two objectives of engineering education which seem essential at this time, namely social responsibility and creativity and discusses some teaching methods which might assist the university in fulfilling its role as a Caribbean educator, assessor and stimulator ER -
